Our Focus - May 2026

It’s halfway through May already and we are recovering from the busiest end and start of year ever. We had several projects on the go including a large order for modified Mini L Heads to be used with the IO Industries 8K camera fitted with a Canon CN-E lens. Here’s a picture:

As you may see, we added several modifications, both electrical, electronic and mechanical to enable lens control and positional feedback.

The CN-E lenses have control for zoom & focus but no position output so we manufactured a lens position sensor. This enables pre-set positioning to include zoom and is also added to the Free-D metadata output.

This sensor is available from us if anyone wants one.

All our heads – except the tiny Micro L Head– have Free-D positional data streamed onto the network for VR, AR and Motion control applications.

Additionally, we have just completed a significant order of Micro L Heads to NEP Australia, new Netcams for Nomadic Cameras in Canada which were used in the Winter Olympics, and have completed a Camball upgrade program for the BBC NHU. We might do a newsletter specifically on this later.

We also hope to publish more technical bulletins on popular or misunderstood issues, so if anyone has a subject they may like us to address, just let us know.

As you may determine, a large proportion of our work is supplying modified kit, based on existing products to service specific applications.  In our business, very little is ‘standard’.

Even our standard products are offered with various options. The Camball5, for example, is now available in 3 versions with different camera modules inside;

1.        1/3”       30x zoom, HD only

2.        1/2”       18x zoom, 4K/50/60 HD switchable

3.        1”            12x zoom. 4K/30, HD switchable

We can, as we did for the BBC, upgrade certain Camball models to one of the camera modules listed above. Contact us for more details but here’s a table listing the features of each version.  An upgrade can be a cheaper option than buying new or recovering older units to working condition.
